Emerald City Day 2
I must admit that anything that happened at the con yesterday was overshadowed by the evening Adventures of Greg, who missed his flight home and so that he got to fly around the West Coast as a Standby on another airline. But it all worked out in the end. He was able to fly to Phoenix which is only an hour and a half from Tucson, and that's not too shabby considering it's Spring Break, evidently, and crap weather around the country which was causing flight delays. A delayed flight, by the way, is how Greg was able to fly out of Seattle at all last night, so Yippee for Bad Weather yesterday.
But today we'd like Nice Weather as Ray and I are flying home in a couple of hours.
Ok- highlights of yesterday:
Ray, who does not drink anymore, so wasn't intoxicated in the slightest, had left the bar last night thinking our bar tab was paid by Greg or I. Greg kicks off the morning by letting us know he went down to the bar after he and Ray came up last night and found that our bar tab was yet unpaid. In fact the bartender didn't even have our room #'s. However, he didn't charge for the multiple drinks Greg had, the only ones consumed by us that had any liquor. I point out to Ray that I couldn't have paid the bill as I came up 3 hours before they did. Ray blames the bartender for not taking our room #. Ok, I'll let him.
Wonderful Eric, hubby of the Laura I spoke of in Day 1, came by first thing and allowed us to become a part of his Where's the Witch series. That completely cracked me up, but then again I think little things like that are hilarious.
(This reminds me that we will not leave you all in the dark. We do have photos from the event, but Ray hath not the camera cord to attach to my laptop to download them thar pics. I'll have those up soon.)
10:40a- The Staff Member who bought two copies of the Trade yesterday stopped by to say that he started reading the book and already hooked. He wanted to be reassured we will be at EmCity next year so he can buy Volume II.
Did I mention all the Staff shirts say "Lackey" on the back?
By 2pm we have sold out of Trades and are excited. Until the Financial Officer side of me started counting lost sales. Turned out not to be too many as activity died down around then. Mostly people who were there for freebees came by at the end of that day. But that's fine as some were nice to chat with.
A fellow in a purple satin jacket (black lining) walks by the booth. He gives me his card which explains that jacket, I hope. He's a magician. I tell him how my sister-in-law, a professional clown, worked at the reception at my Aunt's funeral. I make a bad joke about a funny magician trick would be "and now let's make the corpse disappear". Still funny to me. Greg comes back to the booth as Mr. Purple Jacket is sauntering away, and comments on how that looked like a jacket Mark would wear.
Thus, it has been made clear-- Mark dresses like a magician.
This reminds me, we saw no less than two fellows who dressed and looked like Mark (we have pics of one to prove this). Was the universe trying to tell us something?
Ray has spent the weekend hoping one of his idols James O'Barr would come by our booth as he had said he might. I come back from a mini-wandering to find James there, the two of them chatting. I could almost see how Ray's heart is fluttering with excitement. We get a couple of pics with the two of them, which I know will be framed and put over Ray's desk.
End of day I pre-register for EmCity '07, to be held March 31 and April 1, 2007. Next year will be even better as there is a brand new hotel being built across the street from the convention center (the current host hotel is a 15 minute drive across the town). Convenient locations are Good.
And now we go pack to fly home.
